Beyond 3D Renders: How Design Documentation Helps Bring a Project Together

When people think of my work, they often think of photorealistic 3D renders.

But on many projects, I also assist designers and homeowners with the supporting documentation that helps bring a concept together, including concept floor plans, elevations, selection schedules and presentation material.

For this Currimundi Project, I worked alongside Sage Interior Design & Decor to create a package that clearly communicated the design intent before construction began. Starting With The Vision

Every project begins with an idea.

In this case, the design direction focused on warm timbers, soft neutrals and muted green tones, creating a calm and inviting kitchen that felt both functional and connected to the surrounding home.

Bringing Materials Together

Once the overall direction was established, the selections were documented in a clear and organised format.

The selection schedule brought together cabinetry finishes, benchtops, lighting and furniture selections into one easy reference point for both client and trades.

Developing The Layout

The next step was translating the concept into practical documentation.

Detailed concept floor plans helped establish the kitchen layout, workflow and key dimensions before moving into cabinetry development.

Refining The Cabinetry

Kitchen elevations and detailed cabinetry drawings allowed the finer details to be explored and documented.

This included cabinetry layout, open shelving, appliance integration, the coffee station and feature cabinetry elements.

Visualising The Final Result

Once the layout, materials and cabinetry details had been confirmed, the design was brought to life through 3D visualisation.

The 3D render allowed the designer and client to see how all elements would work together before construction commenced.

Supporting Design Beyond Rendering

While 3D renders remain a large part of my work, I also assist interior designers and homeowners with:

• Presentation documentation

• Design support documentation

Having everything prepared in a consistent format helps streamline communication and gives clients greater confidence in the design process.
